lunedì, 23 Aprile 2018 The Osservatorio Permanente Giovani - Editori announces Tim Cook as a new member of International Advisory Council

Italian organization educates young people on critical thinking skills for quality journalism and current events

Milions of Italian students have participated during the last 17 years in the Osservatorio’s programs, which have helped them better understand what makes good journalism and how to identify quality sources of news. The organization has two main programs, "Quality Information in Classroom", which trains teachers in highs schools across Italy on the best methods to explain and expose students to different sources of information. A second project "Quality Information on Campus" aims to train university students in a similar vein.

“At Apple we are committed to supporting quality journalism because we believe a strong, independent press is essential to a free society, said Apple's CEO Tim Cook. I’ve been very impressed by the Osservatorio’s work and deeply support their mission to help young people develop the skills they need to identify news sources and quality information about the world around us.”

“It is a pleasure and an honor to welcome Tim Cook on board to the Osservatorio's International Advisory Council.  I am confident that Tim will be an extraordinary source of inspiration for all of us. I look very much forward to beginning our collaboration. We at Osservatorio share a common vision, one which stems from the Native American proverb: we do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors—we borrow it from our children, and we all have the duty to leave it a better place than the one we found. In this spirit, convinced as we are that "youth and education" are the most powerful combination for those of us who want to change the world, we have more to do to help young people to become more and more "true” citizens and develop their critical thinking”said Andrea Ceccherini, President of the Osservatorio Permanente Giovani-Editori.

Members unanimously approved this on the recommendation of Osservatorio President Andrea Ceccherini.
