Economic and Financial Literacy
An International Dialogue to Connect Young People to the Future – Christine Lagarde, Presidente BCE
Christine Lagarde is the next guest of honour of the Osservatorio Permanente Giovani–Editori. The ECB President has accepted Andrea Ceccherini’s invitation and will be in Italy on 31 March 2023 in order to take part in a public meeting to be held in Florence as part of the series “Nuovi incontri per il Futuro – Future-oriented meetings”. This meeting is part of the same series that has seen centre stage Tim Cook, CEO Apple Inc., Jan Koum, founder of WhatsApp, Eric Schmidt, CEO and Chairman, Google and Laurene Powell Jobs, chair of Emerson Collective, and Steve Jobs’s widow, the visionary founder of Apple. The ECB President and the Osservatorio President, Andrea Ceccherini, will meet over 400 European students who are taking part in the “Young Factor” economic and financial literacy initiative, to discuss future challenges. Delegations of students from Germany, France, Spain, and The Netherlands, as well as Italian students, will take part in the debate. They are all enrolled in the “Young Factor” experiment in their respective schools. Today, “Young Factor” is the leading economic and financial literacy project in Italy sponsored by the Osservatorio Permanente Giovani-Editori in partnership with Intesa Sanpaolo and UniCredit, and, as an experiment, also in the most important European countries part of the euro area. This event with Christine Lagarde in attendance follows the three-day international conference held last June at Palazzo Mezzanotte in Milan, during which the Governors of the Central Bank of Italy, France, Spain, The Netherlands, later followed by Portugal, signed a public Memorandum of Understanding with the Osservatorio Permanente Giovani-Editori entailing a commitment to work with the Osservatorio Permanente Giovani-Editori to promote more widely the economic and financial literacy amongst young people, as well as a greater sense of belonging to the European Union. A commitment that is revived and strengthened by the attendance of the ECB President, Christine Lagarde, during this Osservatorio Permanente Giovani-Editori event.
